Why I Care About Systems (And Why Your Tech Should Never Be Soul-Sucking)
I talk to business owners every week who feel like they are losing the battle with their own to-do lists. You know the feeling? That heavy weight of an inbox that never stops, the manual effort of moving data from one spreadsheet to another, and the constant fear that an important client is going to fall through the cracks because you’re just one person.
These repetitive, manual tasks are what I call "soul-sucking" work. They aren't why you started your business. They don't help you connect with your clients, and they certainly don't leave you feeling inspired at the end of the day.
And these problems are what get me excited, because I know technology can help with this “soul-sucking” work. Solving problems that help people get to do more of what they love is why I’m obsessed with building better systems and how they can actually make your business feel lighter.
How can better systems prevent business burnout?
Burnout usually doesn't come from the big, creative projects. Those typically light people up. Burnout starts with the "death by a thousand cuts" of admin tasks. When you have to spend two hours a day just managing your schedule or chasing down invoices, you’re using up the mental energy you need for your actual craft.
The right solution automates those tasks. When the tech handles the routine stuff, you get your time back. You get to close your laptop and actually be present with your family, knowing the business won't break while you're gone.
Can technology actually make a business feel more personal?
There is a common worry that adding automation makes a business feel cold or robotic. I think the opposite is true.
When you aren't stressed out by the "how" of your business, you can focus on the "who." A well-timed automated email that answers a client's question before they even ask it makes them feel seen and supported. It shows you’ve thought about their journey and that you care about their experience. Systems give you the capacity to show up as your best self for every single person who walks through your digital front door.
Why is "simple tech" the best tech for small businesses?
We are surrounded by flashy new tools and "must-have" AI features. But for most of us, the best system is the simplest one. You don't need a complicated tech stack that requires a degree to manage. You need a few reliable tools that work together to get the job done.
My goal is always to strip away the noise. We want to find the friction points in your day-to-day work and use technology to smooth them out. Whether it’s an automated lead form or a streamlined checkout process, the tech should stay in the background so your work can stay at the forefront.
Using systems to find more freedom
At the end of the day, I do this work because I want you to love your business again. I want to help you clear out the "admin fog" so you can get back to the work you were meant to do. Technology is just the bridge that helps you get there.
