How I Found Clarity in the Most Uncertain Year of My Life
One year ago, my life changed in a way I never expected.
I was laid off. And I also happened to be six months pregnant.
It was a moment that shook me to my core, leaving me questioning everything—my career, my future, and honestly, my own worth. I had poured so much into my work, and suddenly, I found myself without a job and with a new baby on the way. It was terrifying.
But as I reflect on this past year, I see it differently now. That moment of uncertainty forced me to reassess what truly mattered. Instead of scrambling to get back into the same cycle, I chose to embrace something new. I chose to build something meaningful. I do want to note that being able to do this is a luxury, one I know not many people could do after being laid off. One I wasn’t sure I could do, but with the support of my family, we made it work.
At first, I questioned many things: Do I deserve this time to explore and find my passions? Will I be a “productive member of society” again? Am I doing enough? Am I trying enough? What if I never find my place? Should I just go back into the workforce to do what I know I’m good at?
It wasn’t comfortable. I constantly questioned myself, berated myself for not keeping the house clean enough, and criticized myself for not being the “Most Engaged Mom.” Most of the time, I was downright mean to myself. But I slowly and surely kept taking steps forward.
Fast-forward a year, and I am more aligned with my passions than ever. I’m pursuing my master’s in clinical mental health counseling, a field I’ve long felt drawn to. I’m also combining my background in technology and writing to create something that truly matters—a platform designed to transform maternal mental health through technology and research-backed tools.
Through this journey, I’ve realized just how broken our maternal mental health system is. So many mothers struggle with anxiety, depression, and isolation, yet support is often inaccessible, confusing, or simply nonexistent. I want to change that.
That’s why I’m working on VeedaMom, a platform dedicated to making maternal mental health support accessible, proactive, and stigma-free. Moms shouldn’t have to wait until they’re in crisis to find help. They shouldn’t have to navigate confusing systems alone. They shouldn’t have to wonder if what they’re experiencing is “normal.” VeedaMom is about empowering moms with the tools, resources, and community they deserve.
Beyond my professional endeavors, this past year has also been one of deep personal growth. I’ve had time to be present with my family in a way I never expected. I’ve learned how to rebuild confidence after a major life setback. And most importantly, I’ve proven to myself that I’m stronger than I ever imagined.
Life doesn’t always go as planned, but sometimes, the unexpected turns lead us exactly where we need to be. I can’t wait to share more about VeedaMom and everything I’ve been working on. If you’re interested in maternal mental health, technology in mental wellness, or just the journey of reinventing yourself, I’d love to connect.
Stay tuned—big things are coming!
